The Market Park Farmers Market is open in season (late June through October) Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. through 7 p.m. EDT. Located at the intersection of South Jackson & Hwy 30, Market Parket Farmers Market is easily accessible from Interstate 75, via Exits 49 & 52, from State Route 30, from State Route 411, & from State Route 11. Wayfaring signs are located on State Route 30 from Exit 49 on Interstate 75 & from the city limits on State Route 30 coming from State Route 411 from Englewood & Etowah. All farmers market sellers must register with and be inspected by the McMinn County UT Agriculture Extension office located at 107 West College Street, Athens, TN phone 423-744-1615. A complete set of guidelines may be obtained from the Extension office. The market is free to sellers. The Market Park Farmers Market is located in downtown Athens, TN and was built and opened in 2011 as phase one of a downtown development project. Additional phases of the development include a second pavilion, permanent restrooms, an amphitheater and exercise walkways. Market Park is adjacent to Veterans Park which includes a one half mile walking trail, a brick walk featuring 4,000 names in honor and in memory of veterans, monuments to all branches of service and a 600 pound granite globe that floats on water. Phase two of the development is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2011 and includes the restrooms and walkways on the Market Park side of the development. Funding for Market Park is a cooperative effort of the City of Athens, the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development, the Tennessee Agriculture Enhancement Program, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Local Parks and Recreation Fund and McMinn County.
